DESIGN SPECS

Overview

  • Create a music festival and design a promotional poster.

  • Use the cut and paste style of the Dada art movement.

PROCESS

Mind Map and Sketches

Wanting to create something more playful and whimsical, I decided to create an 80’s metal version of classical Barque music.

Classical music can appear unapproachable and I wanted to create something that would appeal to a younger demographic as well as be a campy mix of images for classical music fans. Incorporating the cut and paste style of Dada, I thought that this would be a great way to combine all of the art styles together.

I created a mind map and some rough sketches to figure out how I wanted to approach the project as well as research popular Barque artists. They were the rock star rebels of the day so I decided to run with that idea.

ORGANIZING IDEAS

Mind Map

Playing with ideas of merging Barque artists with Heavy Metal music iconography.

EXPLORING THEMES

Sketches

Common elements of:

  • cutout letters

  • music notes

  • spilled ink

  • lightning bolts

TOUCH OF WHIMSY

Final Design

Created a design that integrates a touch of the absurdity into the realm of classical music by inspired by the cutout technique used by Dada artists. The resulting promotional poster is crafted to captivate a broader audience, offering a unique visual experience that piques curiosity and stimulates interest.
